Intermediate Class: Take your Longsword game to a new level. Must have attended a Beginner Longsword class or have equivalent experience with another club or organization. Requires basic knowledge of longsword footwork and cuts.
Students are expected to have a familiarity, but not necessarily mastery, of the basic attacks and postures of the German/KDF system.
Expanding on the basics covered in the Beginner Longsword class, we will begin examining the deeper tactical framework of the German Longsword system and exploring further applications of the techniques learned in the beginner course. This course will focus on assessing an opponent's starting position and gaining control of an exchange through the lens of Joachim Meyer's "Provoker" and "Taker" concepts. This class will also focus on how the KDF system ends an exchange through the lens of Meyer's "Hitter" actions, as well as how to retreat safely from an exchange to prevent after blows from landing.
